New Canaan Co-Ed Development Program

Overview

Experienced, professional coaches will run a once-per-week Co-Ed fundamental basketball skills program for 2nd grade New Canaan boys & girls from November 2022 through early March 2023. The primary objectives of the program are to introduce the boys and girls to skill work, team play, and eventually full-court play, and to begin to prepare them for New Canaan Basketball’s 3rd & 4th grade Travel Prep Programs and ultimately the Middle School Travel Basketball program beginning in 5th grade. Spots will be limited in order to maintain a high-quality coach to player ratio.

Mike Evans, a former varsity head coach and NCAA Division 1 assistant, and a former semi-pro, college and high school all-state player, will oversee this foundational skills-based program that also includes intrasquad games. Mike’s website for basketball instruction can be found here. 

Curriculum + Schedule

The program will follow a strict curriculum, the features of which are but aren’t limited to ball-handling, defense, shooting, passing and in-game concepts.  Hoops will be lowered to 8 feet as recommended by USA Basketball for this age group.

There will be roughly 15 75-minute practices, which take place at St. Mary’s in Norwalk once per week from 4-5pm. 

Cost

The cost - which includes a reversible jersey, coaching, and facility rental, is $400 per player. 

Schedule

The weekly session will take place on Wednesdays from 4PM to 5:15PM
